Dad was a Chaplain at Starr, and spoke of his experiences there from time to time. Dad also had great difficulty remembering to call Mr. Ali "Muhmmad Ali". He would usually call him Cassius Clay, and then correct himself.
Why do we still call The Pilgrim Malcolm the Patriarch (el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz) "Malcolm X"? Mr. el-Shabazz was born Malcolm Little on 19 May 1925. His hajj name is el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz. He completed the hajj in 1964 and died 21 February 1965. We ignore his better, greater name at our peril.
Since the late 1980s I've been trying to go to Mecca. Because I am a hostage and prisoner of the United States, that opportunity has been refused me.
